This one is named for the tall, pinnately compound leaved "tree", actually an intentionally stunted specimen of a shrub called Lead Plant. It's a fairly unusual variety. Though the Amorpha is some years old the garden is quite newly planted and will fill in over time.

I think this is one of the prettiest. The two Pittosporum "trees" are beautifully colored with silvery green leaves and dark branches and the sheen on the rocks matches the coloration of the cottage.

I understand the Pittosporum to be marginally hardy here and I haven't wintered them over yet...so someone from a lower elevation or more southern clime please come claim this garden before the real cold sets in.

This is probably the one I'd most want to live in. The house is on a lovely rock foundation and is flanked by an amazingly dense Japanese Cedar with an exposed root burl and backed by a sizeable Hawthorne. A cast iron Bressingham bridge crosses the water.

Am I crazy for letting this one go?

A tropical look, but the plants are hardy. This garden is much more vibrant than it appears in these photos. It glistens. The roof lifts off the hut making it a little secret stash box, perhaps a place to hide that extra house key?

Four teency tiny houses make up this neighborhood, all along one looping stretch of their paved road. Only the smallest of trees would do, two tea trees and a Dwarf Chinese Elm.

Complete with a rock that suggests a whale in an ocean of blue glass that suggests water. The "tree" is a Quicksilver Hebe and is under-planted with moss and succulents, including hen and chicks on the rocks to mimic the real ones found on the coastal bluffs.

A monstrously HUGE fairy garden, it includes a Sunshine Privet that's almost three feet tall now, (needs pruning, eh?), a perfect Miniature Elm, and a 'Whipcord' Western Red Cedar.

This peek into a dream world is filled with meaningful symbols...a path, a sleeping kitty, an urn full of water, a brass snake, crystals and a rock with a fairy footprint on it! With tea trees and ground-cover manzanitas it wants to grow fairly vigorously and will welcome some regular pruning.

This is a cockeyed look at a classically landscaped property. It's a pretty garden with nice little finishing touches, including white wicker resin furniture and a tiny gazing ball, not visible in the first pics.

A peaceful little garden, with a sweep of black pebbles, a swath of miniature black mondo grass and a marble bench for sitting and contemplating the Heavenly Bamboo and the Snowrose which blooms seasonally.

A dark little wonder, this garden is embellished with cast iron garden bench and chair. The ground cover Partridgeberry is still spreading and bears tiny twin sets of creamy white flowers in spring.

A deep, lush garden, the Variegated Porcelain Berry Vine now covers the trellis. I haven't seen this one bloom yet, but when the one in my garden produces berries they're metallic turquoise blue!

One of the more dramatic gardens, with a beautiful Lemon Cypress next to the house and cottage borders that include a Butterball Cypress, a Lady Fern and a vigorous Miniature Winter Creeper.

A tiny tea setting (can we finally use the word 'precious'?) set on a true Indian brass bistro set on a real stone patio. The landscaping includes a seasonally blooming Snowrose, a lovely little conifer and a vine that looks just like a smaller-than-miniature ivy but is really a miniature oak-leaf creeping fig.

Intriguing dwarf trees, shrubs and vines in a park like setting. This garden should take care of itself, given plenty of showers in summer to keep the moss green.

Honestly, there are three reasons I'm not sure I want to let go of this one. One is problematic...the house was apparently not made to withstand weather, and though it is one of the priciest buildings I've purchased the window trim has been falling off, requiring re-glueing and the paint is peeling badly.

The second reason is more positive... this is just a beautifully landscaped piece. And the third reason is the amazing, floriferous, minute and darling heuchera...a plant I've not yet found again for sale in the years since I got this one.

Still, it's a big garden that takes a lot of space and if someone just HAD to have it...

To complement the white variegation on the Euonymus leaves this garden has an Azalea that bears full-sized ruffled white flowers in season. Even the Cypress is White-tipped.

Well established, needs almost no pruning. Some lovely rocks accent the little resin gnome home. It has a nice selection of plants, with elm, boxwood and cypress as well as succulents.

A sweet little garden with promise to grow into something special. The Red Cedar is slow-growing but sturdy and well established. The Angelina Sedum and the seasonal Blue Star Creeper make fine companions.

I've included a couple of pictures from before Avery put her house there just to show the moss when it's green. Real, though dwarf, elms need fairly frequent pruning to keep from shooting out long limbs.

The Sunrose tends to grow wild and leggy but seems to tolerate fairly severe pruning. In this garden she is undergrown with a ground-hugging veronica that sends up tiny flower stalks that look like minuscule hollyhocks.

The Elm tree is in winter dormancy in some of these photos, but she leafs out beautifully come spring. This is just one of my favorite little scenarios, so filled with charm and magic.

A combination of succulents with drought-hardy tea trees and ceonothus make a beautiful setting for this rustic residence. A great selection of rocks, including a nice chunk of petrified wood.

Planted with two privet honeysuckles (Loniceras) as well as a Ceonothus this is a garden that wants to grow grow grow and will need a firm hand to keep the wildness tamed into a pleasing pattern of arching limbs.

Fairly newly planted and not very grown in yet this little charmer is ready to fill out its container. The concrete driveway encircles a Snowrose which is a miniature tree called a Serissa that will flower with perfect tiny white rose-like blooms and a dwarf ginkgo tree is nearby.
